We strive to act as a forum and resource of education through research and clinical exposure. Because of the common use of alternative therapies in the community, it is our responsibility as physicians in training to be educated of these therapies so that we can best counsel our patients about the safest and most effective treatments. Our goal is not to advocate for any particular modality, but to present evidence-based therapies and how they can be included in our future practice of medicine. We aim to apply the purpose of this interest group to the full spectrum of specialties and practices of medicine.
About
The purpose of this organization shall be to provide students with information about and opportunities to explore integrative medicine. Integrative medicine views the practice of healing as an art that incorporates the whole person (mind, body and spirit) and aims to reach a state of well-being rather than a disease-free state. It emphasizes the patient centered physician relationship as a means to integrating lifestyle modification, alternative therapies and conventional allopathic treatments. This is in accordance with Loyola’s mission to go, “beyond facts, experimentation and treatment of disease… to treat the human spirit.”
